HEALING WATER
TRONG HOT SPRINGS WELLS, Kuala Trong, Taiping
Trong is in a quite remote area of Perak. It takes about 30mins to drive here from Taiping or an hour from Lumut along narrow roads that cut through villages. It is believed that the wells of the three hot springs were built during World War II by the Japanese who used the water to treat their injured soldiers.

Set in a 1.6-hectare piece of land which now belongs to Shamsuddin Ahmad’s family, the three wells contain water in varying temperatures from hot and warm to cold.

The wells are open to the public for a small fee. The family has built houses nearby and channelled water from the wells to two swimming pools and private bath areas there.

If all you want is to soak your feet, just request for pails of well water; this can be replenished as often as you like. The water is said to be able to cure many types of skin diseases.

In 2002, Shamsuddin’s family started charging nominal sums for the use of the wells: Adult swimming pool RM2, child swimming pool RM1 (unlimited hours), private bath RM25 per hour and private herbal bath RM8 per person.

The hot springs are located at Kampung Batu 9, Jalan Trong, Changkat Jering. It is open daily from 8am to 10pm. To get there, look out for the “Kolam Air Panas Perubatan” signboard in Trong. For details, call Pak Yeop at 013-455 3411.
